News & Events

We strive to provide quality programming that connects our members to other journalists and resources in the Phoenix area. We regularly sponsor events that focus on media ethics training, the Freedom of Information Act and open government, as well as media lectures and networking opportunities. We also honor local media with journalism awards and provide scholarships to journalism students at Arizona universities.

Each spring, SPJ holds regional conferences to train journalists on a variety of topics, including narrative writing, media ethics, public records requests, resume reviews, job searching, social media tools and media pitching. Every fall, SPJ holds a national convention to bring together hundreds of journalists from across the country to discuss trends that affect the industry, such as newsroom diversity, media ethics, shield laws, convergence, technology trends and the future of newspapers.
