  •  Courts idea from Jimmy Jenkins, KJZZ reporter: Have judges talk about public access/transparency – who is the ideal audience?

Old Business

  • Meet the Board of the Arizona Association of Black Journalists, Jan. 25, 5 pm, Cronkite School
  • SPJ Region 11 conference, Las Vegas, March 30, 2019
  • Chapter e-newsletter launched in December – content ideas welcome
  • Chelsea to email Paula and cc Mark and Tim about why newsletter is going to Chelsea’s spam.
  • Chelsea to submit info about book for April or May newsletter (TBD). Send to Tim on the Friday before the first Tuesday of the month (March 28 for April or April 26 for May newsletter)

New Business

  • Discussed changing location of meetings since no one on board is in East Valley
    • New location: Wildflower at 44th Street and Indian School, effective for next meeting date of May 5, 2019
  • Update from Region 11 and National – Deb Krol
  • Discuss possible programming:
  • Deb Krol previously did a program on free press in Indian Country, with Dennis Wagner and Dodi Manuel
  • ABA designation of Law Day topic (May 1) to be Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society
  • Could do some events with schools
  • Ideas developed from Region 11 conference to come
  • Chapter outreach
  • Discussed membership and reaching back out to previous members on Excel sheet
  • Discussed idea of niche groups that “meet” online (ex. Authors of SPJ) vs. traditional local meetings
  • Outreach beyond the chapter – collaboration with other journalist groups, for example:
  • Lauren Aguirre, ONAPHX founder
  • End of March, ONA might have happy hour
  • ONA benefits: going to national conference (trying to bring mini experiences of it to Phoenix)
