Special Meeting of the Society of Professional Journalists, Valley of the Sun Pro Chapter

New Business

• Discussion and vote on whether to hold 16th annual Valley Publicity Summit – Board members discussed pros and cons of holding an in-person Valley Publicity Summit at Barrett, the Honors College, at Arizona State University in Tempe on Sept. 26, 2020. A proposal from a Valley virtual-event provider was considered. Board members agreed that the cost of hiring the provider and the shorter-than-usual time span to promote the event increased the likelihood of its losing money the chapter could not afford. Motion: Mark moved and Tim seconded a motion to cancel the 2020 Summit and begin planning for an in-person event in September 2021, and in the 2020 event’s place, to work with the Phoenix chapter of the Public Relations Society of America to hold several joint virtual events over the next year about improving the media-PR relationship. Motion unanimously approved.
