What do you do if you believe law enforcement is interfering with your in-person coverage of an arrest, crime scene or emergency scene? Learn your rights and responsibilities at these scenes at a FREE Nov. 17 forum presented by Valley of the Sun SPJ and the Arizona Latino Media Association.

“Your Right to Record: What You Can and Can’t Do at Arrest, Emergency Scenes” is a FREE panel discussion followed by a question-and-answer session. It will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, in the First Amendment Forum at the Arizona State University Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, 555 N. Central Ave., Phoenix. Paid parking is available in the lot immediately north of the school, which is on the Valley Metro Light Rail B Line.

Bring your questions and concerns about how to effectively cover these live scenes within legal and ethical boundaries while learning what police may and may not do

Morgan Loew, managing editor and investigative reporter for Arizona’s Family (KTVK-TV, 3TV and KPHO-TV, CBS5), will moderate the discussion. Panelists include former ABC15 reporter Patricio Espinoza, who received a settlement after his altercation with Mesa police at a crime scene; attorney Peter Limperis, counsel to the First Amendment Coalition of Arizona; and Taylor Seely, First Amendment issues reporter for The Arizona Republic/azcentral.com.

Light refreshments will be served.
