SPJ’s annual Ethics Week celebration is April 14-18. “Ethical journalism is the foundation of an informed society,” according to SPJ’s website. “The SPJ Code of Ethics calls on journalists to be truthful, compassionate, independent and transparent, ensuring that news serves the public good. In an era of uncertainty, misinformation and ever-evolving media landscapes, ethical journalism is more critical than ever.

“From election coverage to global conflicts to the rise of AI in newsrooms, journalists face challenges that test ethical decision-making daily. The SPJ Code of Ethics doesn’t ask journalists to avoid difficult truths — it provides a framework to ensure reporting is accurate, fair and responsible.
