The national Society of Professional Journalists announced Sept. 6 that the Valley of the Sun chapter won the 2023 Circle of Excellence Award for Professional Development, Small Chapters.
In a statement, the Society said it recognized our chapter for work including:
— The Valley Publicity Summit, which gathers journalists and public relations professionals in a pitching and networking event.
— Hosting “Get Freelancing!” programs featuring longtime Valley freelancer Alan Korwin that help freelancers develop their pitching skills.
— The State of Arizona Media 2023 presentation, which was presented virtually in March by Arizona Media Association President and CEO Chris Kline.
Chapter President Tim Eigo will accept the award at a business meeting at the Sept. 28-30 SPJ National Convention in Law Vegas.
Valley of the Sun SPJ was also nominated from Region 11 as a finalist for national Small Chapter of the Year. The winner of that award will be announced Sept. 28 at the convention.
