AAA Arizona is seeking a full-time, in-house (24th St. & Camelback Rd.) Online Magazine Associate Editor responsible for writing, editing, and proofing editorial-style pieces for the online version of Highroads magazine and AAA Arizona business lines. On the magazine side, this includes all stages of the online editorial cycle (editorial calendar development, topic identification, research, writing, assigning to freelance writers, editing, fact-checking, proofing, uploading to website, tagging with SEO, reporting on website analytics, etc.). On the marketing side, this includes working with the marketing team and business line leads to create editorial-style copy and marketing collateral to support achievement of product lines, revenue, market penetration, and profitability.

Key responsibilities include:

Supports the editor-in-chief/Highroads magazine by:
• Developing an editorial calendar for Highroads Online
• Developing the production schedule for Highroads Online
• Writing or repurposing travel, automotive, and related copy for Highroads Online
• Fact-checking and proofing all articles for Highroads Online
• Working with Creative Services to obtain images
• Uploading content, images, and video to website, including the homepage, landing pages, and individual content pages
• Maintaining online and print version of the Arizona Events Calendar
• Breaking out individual stories from each issue of Highroads, tagging with appropriate SEO, and uploading and publishing on website
• Breaking out individual segments from each episode of AAA Presents Highroads with Dan Davis, tagging with appropriate SEO, and uploading and publishing on website
• Following AAA Style Guide and AP Stylebook

Supports marketing team by:
• Assigning and editing auto reviews for monthly e-newsletter
• Writing assigned sections and proofing various e-newsletters and print publications
• Writing and editing assigned copy for the AAA brand and individual lines of business; serving as a brand steward in written communication for digital and print formats; reviewing and editing copy for brand compliance; and detecting errors in spelling, punctuation, and grammar
• Following AAA Style Guide and AP Stylebook

Performs administrative duties by:
• Preparing freelancers’ invoices for submission to accounting and maintaining records of payment
• Responding to member requests

Key qualifications include:
• Bachelor’s degree in Communiciations, Journalism or related field
• A minimum of three years experience in magazine publishing or online publications required
• Macintosh hardware/software experience required
• Must be familiar with SEO best practices
• Content Management System experience preferred (such as Drupal)
• HTML and/or Web Coding experience preferred
• Necessary competencies include: Collaboration and Teamwork, Accountability, Initiative, Customer Focus and Communication Skills

Qualifications

• Ability to manage 20+ interviews and custom features/profiles per month

Highroads Magazine welcomes new editor-in-chief

AAA Arizona announced in April that Jill Schildhouse has joined AAA Arizona as editor-in-chief of the bimonthly magazine Highroads®. In this role, Schildhouse will be responsible for overseeing the planning, writing, editing, and management of the magazine.

Schildhouse comes to AAA Arizona with more than 11 years of publishing experience. For the past several years she has been a freelance writer, contracting regularly for publications such as Arizona Highways, Muscle & Performance, Vim & Vigor, and Arrive, Amtrak’s onboard publication.
